Some Roads Remain Water-Covered; Flash Freeze Expected

Wet roadways combined with freezing conditions could result in hazardous driving conditions tomorrow morning

Pikeville, KY (April 7, 2025)— The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 12 is alerting motorists to hazardous driving conditions throughout the district, as recent rainfall has left roads saturated and vulnerable to flash freezing due to dropping temperatures overnight. The combination of standing water, saturated ground, and the possibility of freezing temperatures tonight may lead to dangerous conditions, including black ice and hydroplaning, especially in areas with reduced or impacted travel from recent flooding.

Motorists are urged to use caution, reduce speeds, and remain alert, particularly in the following areas:

Johnson County:

– **KY 1107 MP 0.931-2.0**: Mudslide — **CLOSED** until further notice (Active slide on KY 302 end)

**Flash Freeze Warning**:

The KYTC also wants to remind drivers of the potential for black ice developing overnight as temperatures drop. Wet roadways combined with freezing conditions could result in hazardous driving conditions tomorrow morning, particularly in areas where roads have been impacted by water. Motorists are urged to **slow down** and remain cautious when traveling in these areas.

The KYTC continues to monitor weather and road conditions and is working to address any issues as quickly and safely as possible. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed of real-time conditions through local news, road signs, and KYTC social media updates.
