Johnson County, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 12 reports steady progress on the precautionary safety project along KY 321 in Johnson County, launched in late April, this project was initiated out of an abundance of caution to reduce the risk of future rockfalls, especially ahead of freeze-thaw cycles in the colder months.
Contractor GSI has completed the primary phase of the project, which includes slope stabilization and the installation of rockfall barriers to secure the mountainside above the roadway. Today, KYTC crews will shift focus to clearing the roadway, repairing shoulders, and completing earthwork to ensure the highway is safe for public travel. Barring weather delays, KY 321 is expected to reopen on Friday, June 6.
Motorists are reminded to remain alert for workers and equipment as final cleanup and repair operations are underway. KYTC encourages drivers to obey all signage and reduce speed near the work zone.
