A man from Salyersville is facing carjacking and other charges after police say he tried to get into someone else’s car without their permission.
Paintsville PD says they got a 9-1-1 call about somebody trying to get into a car on Second Street, and that the person ran off.
When Officers caught up with Tracy Coffee, they say he told them he had just been baptized and that the Lord had commanded him to take the vehicle.
In addition to his divine motivation, Officers also report that Coffee told them he had been smoking marijuana.
The car owner showed up and police say was able to identify Coffee as the suspect.
Coffee is charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and menacing.
He is at the Big Sandy Detention Center until a scheduled court appearance next week.
Coffee is no stranger to the law.
Jail records show he has been booked 34 times over the last 25 years on charges ranging from criminal mischief, evidence tampering, resisting arrest, and drug possession.
