Johnson County Man Arrested After Alleged Storage Burglary, Assault on Officer

A Johnson County man finds himself behind bars, accused of a burglary to a storage building.

Paintsville Police responded to an address on Pine Street on Sunday before sunrise.

The caller reported seeing a man running away with his weedeater.

The caller then told dispatchers that the man appeared to have dropped his stolen weedeater in the street as he was fleeing on Broadway.

Paintsville Police arrived and quickly found 19-year-old Devin Wells on foot at a nearby gas station.

As they tried to approach, Wells bolted again.

After a short foot chase, Wells was captured and arrested.

Even as Wells was being taken to jail, he slipped his handcuffs in the patrol car and kicked one officer in the face.

It took mace and pepper spray to get Wells back under control.

He’s formally charged with burglary, assault of an officer, attempted escape, and fleeing or evading.
