Governor Sharing Information On Tax Season Changes This Year

State officials are urging Kentucky residents to get all of their tax documents submitted ahead of the April 15th deadline this year.

Governor Andy Beshear shared information on some changes that could impact filing and refunds for 2026.

First, the governor says processing delays with the U.S. Postal Service could result in late filing penalties for folks who do not get their paperwork in the mail early.

Also, on April 1st, Kentucky is adopting national fraud protection standards for tax refunds that are direct deposited.

This means the names on tax documents will need to match the names on bank accounts exactly.

If they do not match, the state Department of Revenue will issue paper checks instead.
