Magoffin County Judge Execuitve Matt Wireman says it’s time to address concerns about the city of Salyersville’s water and sewage utilities.
He’s proposing a merger between the Salyersville Waterworks and the Magoffin County Water District to deal with issues involving staffing, equipment, and infrastructure.
He says he is reluctant to get involved because the problems have been going on too long, and that they affect not just Salyersville water customers but future economic development as well.
He expects there will be pushback, but he hopes that having the County Water District run the system in Salyersville could be the best way to handle the situation.
Under the current system, the County distinct buys weather from the independent Salyersville water works.
