Drivers Urged to Use Caution as Flood Cleanup and Repairs Continue

Watch for Crews and FEMA individual assistance teams

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Mar. 05, 2025) Drivers are urged to use caution on Kentucky roadways as cleanup, repairs, and damage assessment continue after last month’s flooding.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) crews are making estimates of repairs, and in some cases work has already begun. In addition, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) crews are canvassing areas in which a disaster was declared for properties eligible for individual assistance. This means an increase in traffic on state and county roads.

Two state-maintained roads remain closed in District 12, KY 1428 in Johnson County and KY 1087 in Knott County, due to significant breaks in pavement. A number of other state highways, mostly in Pike, Floyd, and Knott counties experienced pavement breaks, slips, or mudslides. County-maintained roads were also affected.

Below are driving tips shared by the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management to help ensure safety on the highways during the disaster response:
