Fall Forest Fire Hazard Season is Here

Kentucky has officially entered the forest fire hazard season.

Kentucky Natural Resources said the season will last from today through December 15th to reduce the risk of wildfires in the state’s extensive forested areas.

During this time, it is illegal to burn or set fire to any flammable material between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland.

Fires are only permitted from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, or anytime if the ground is fully covered with snow.

Any violations could lead to civil fines or even a jail sentence, depending on the severity.
