Floyd County Man Convicted in Deadly Auxier Shooting

A Floyd County man is facing prison time after a deadly shooting last year in Auxier.

Attorney General Russell Coleman says a jury has found 68-year-old Larry Johnson guilty of first-degree manslaughter. Jurors recommended a 20-year sentence.

The conviction stems from an April 2025 incident in which Johnson shot and killed Steven Adkins following an altercation. Witnesses say Johnson approached Adkins on a bridge, returned to his vehicle for a gun, and then shot him after a struggle.

Adkins later died from his injuries.

Coleman called the verdict justice for the victim’s family and praised investigators and prosecutors for their work.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced June 4th.
