Johnson County Announces KP Funplex: New Entertainment Center Coming to Paintsville

The following is a release from Johnson County Fiscal Court:

Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie and the Johnson County Fiscal Court, in partnership with the Johnson County Board of Education and a local developer, are thrilled to announce the signing of a lease agreement for the construction of KP Funplex, a state-of-the-art entertainment center. The 62,500-square-foot facility will be situated on a site adjoining the new Johnson Central High School campus, near Walmart.

KP Funplex will offer a wide range of activities designed to appeal to all ages, including 24 bowling lanes, a two-level go-kart track, laser tag, arcade games, 4D and VR gaming experiences, axe throwing, and party rooms. The facility will also feature a restaurant, making it a complete destination for family entertainment.

“On behalf of the fiscal court, I want to extend my gratitude to Johnson County Schools and the school board for their partnership in seizing this unique opportunity. By collaborating with a private developer, we’re not only bringing student and family-friendly entertainment to our community but also driving increased traffic and economic growth in the region,” said Johnson County Judge-Executive Mark McKenzie.

“We’re thrilled to secure preferred access to the 24 bowling lanes for our bowling team,” said Superintendent Thom Cochran. “This will greatly reduce our need to travel to other facilities and provide us with the opportunity to host tournaments right here in our community.”

Construction of KP Funplex is expected to begin in 2025, and the facility is poised to become a major attraction for residents and visitors alike, further enriching the community’s recreational offerings.
