BELFRY, Ky. (December 11, 2025) – Kentucky State Police Post 9, Pikeville, was notified of a fatal collision involving a pedestrian at approximately 6:34 a.m. on December 10, 2025. The incident occurred on U.S. 119 in the Belfry community of Pike County.
The initial investigation determined Eric Bentley was operating a bicycle when he was struck by a 2013 Ford F-150 operated by Michael Sheppard. Mr. Bentley was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office.
The collision remains under investigation by Accident Reconstructionist Detective Matt Smith. Detective Smith was assisted on scene by Post 9 personnel, Belfry Volunteer Fire Department, and Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service.
