Floyd County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating a suspicious vehicle call in Garrett on Tuesday.
Deputies pulled in behind a car facing traffic.
The vehicle was driven by 60-year-old Shawan Fransis who allegedly backed his car into the deputies, then covered the officers with bear spray and drove away.
Deputies found Fransis outside of his home and ordered him to get out of his car, which he did; however, he hid one hand which was later found to have been holding a can of bear spray and he used it at least two times.
Deputies then used pepper spray and a taser to apprehend Fransis who now faces three counts of assaulting an officer and other charges.
