Woman Accused Of Using Daughter To Smuggle Contraband Into Martin County Prison

A Lexington woman is accused of using her ten-year-old daughter to help smuggle drugs into a federal prison in Martin County.

Shakaree Carter is facing counts including promoting contraband and unlawful transaction.

Investigators say Carter and her child were visiting an inmate at the Big Sandy Penitentiary back in April when she and the girl went into the restroom with the prisoner.

The inmate then used the child to obstruct the view from security cameras before pulling a package of suboxone strips out of the girl’s pocket and swallowing it, according to authorities.

Officials say Carter has admitted to the allegations.
