A welfare check by Floyd County deputies led to child neglect and drug charges against a Floyd County couple.
Deputies were called to the Alpike Motel to check on the welfare of a sick child allegedly being neglected by the parents who appeared to be intoxicated.
The child’s mother, Megan Ball, told deputies they were waiting for a ride to take the child to the doctor.
However, the officer noted Ball appeared unsteady with slurred speech and pinpoint pupils.
The father, Dustin Case, also appeared to be under the influence.
A search of the hotel room found two syringes and a bag containing what appeared to be heroin.
A 7-year-old child was also in the room.
Social Services was contacted, and the deputies arrested Ball and Case on charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
