Improvements Proposed Along US-460 in Johnson and Magoffin Counties

A public meeting was held on Tuesday evening regarding proposed improvements to the 14-mile stretch of US-460 between Paintsville and Salyersville.

Shantana Woodward with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet tells us the proposed improvements to the corridor would be a “two plus one design,” which includes alternating passing lanes and a striped median buffer.

Woodward says the transportation cabinet is seeking the public’s input. “People can go online to our social media pages where there will be a QR code and a link where they can fill out a survey and tell us their thoughts,” Woodward said.

Johnson County Judge-Executive Mark McKenzie was also present at Tuesday’s meeting.

McKenzie noted the improvements are important for both safety and for economic development.

“Ultimately the goal is we are trying to improve the safety of the folks traveling on the roadway, and second of all it provides opportunity for ourselves to improve economically because it creates a better roadway for people to come do business with us here in Johnson County.”

Tuesday’s meeting was held at Johnson Central High School. An additional public meeting will be held Thursday evening, April 9, at Magoffin County High School.
