Coal Miners Memorial Unveiled in Hazard

You can now visit the memorial to more than 400 Eastern Kentucky coal miners who have lost their lives working in the industry.

On Wednesday officials cut the ribbon on the new memorial in Triangle Park in Hazard.

The names are listed on the sculpture which is surrounded by coal.

The Chairman of the Hazard Perry County Tourism Board tells WYMT coal is the foundation of the community and those workers gave their lives so the community could thrive.

He says having it in Triangle Park means anyone can visit and really take time to acknowledge the contribution and sacrifice of the miners.
