Planned Water Outage in Boones Camp Area

Paintsville Utilities will be doing line maintenance on Thursday which will cause the water to be off most of tomorrow in the Boones Camp area.  This will include a large area starting at left fork of two mile on Rt 40 all the way to the county line including all hollows and side roads. After the maintenance is completed, a boil-water order will be in place.

Motion To Dismiss Indictment Against Former Sheriff Denied

A motion to dismiss an indictment against former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Stines is being denied. Stines is accused of shooting and killing District Judge Kevin Mullins in September 2024 in the judge's chambers. The defense had argued that prosecutors presented false and misleading testimony to a grand jury regarding Stines' mental state. A judge has ruled that prosecutors did not engage in misconduct during grand jury proceedings, allowing for the case to move forward.

Unemployment Down Across Kentucky

The number of first time filings for unemployment are decreasing across Kentucky. That's according to the U.S. Department of Labor, which says for the week ending November 29th, there were just over 18-hundred first time filings in the state. Nationally, the number of initial filings decreased for the week.

Arrest Made Following Burglary at Webb’s Grocery

A Johnson County woman, Aimee Lee Petty, 49, is facing multiple charges after she allegedly burglarized Webbs Grocery in Van Lear.   According to the Paintsville Herald, the owner of the business called dispatch saying they were watching a security feed of the incident while it happened.  When deputies arrived at the store, they noticed broken glass on the front and then found Petty who was surrounded by dogs.  Deputies struggled to handcuff Petty who is also facing charges of trying […]

Former Prison Lieutenant Enters Guilty Plea to Falsifying Records

A former USP Big Sandy Lieutenant Michael J. Childers is facing up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,00 after entering a guilty plea Monday to falsifying records in what prosecutors describe as a coordinated cover-up of an April 2021 assault on a vulnerable inmate seeking protective custody.    No sentencing date has yet been entered.

From Paintsville Utilities: Due to line maintenance, beginning on Monday, December 08, 2025, at approximately 08:30 a.m., Paintsville Utilities will have the water off and road closed for most of the day in the following area: Chestnut Road beginning just past Grover Lawson Rd up towards the Martin County line Once services are restored, there will be a boil water advisory issued for these areas.
