The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 office advises motorists of an upcoming temporary road closure on KY 2040 (Offutt Road) in Johnson County to allow crews to perform a culvert extension and shoulder repairs. The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a request for assistance from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office on January 5, 2026, at approximately 12:20 p.m., regarding a structure fire in the Melvin community of Floyd County. KSP investigators responded to the scene on Henpen Branch in the Melvin community. The preliminary investigation indicates that emergency personnel located two deceased individuals inside the residence. Gas Prices Remain Low Across Kentucky

Heading into the first full week of the New Year, gas prices across Kentucky remain well below the national average. Triple A says the average cost per gallon in the state is currently at two-dollars and 58-cents. The national average has dropped down to two-dollars and 81-cents per gallon.

Wolfe County Woman Accused Of Aborting, Burying Baby

A Wolfe County woman is accused of aborting her own baby and burying the infant in her yard. Kentucky State Police say 35-year-old Melinda Spencer has been arrested and charged with first-degree fetal homicide. Troopers responded to United Clinic in Campton after Spencer reportedly told medical staff she ordered medication online and used it to terminate the pregnancy. The body of the baby was found buried in a shallow grave on Spencer's property on Flat Mary Road, according to KSP.

Motion Filed To Swap Judge In Case Involving Sheriff Murdering Judge

Former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines is asking that a new judge be assigned to his case. Stines is accused of shooting and killing Judge Kevin Mullins in Mullins' chambers in September of 2024. Whooping Cough Cases Confirmed In Floyd County

More cases of whooping cough are being confirmed in Floyd County. The Floyd County Health Department says three additional cases have been confirmed, bringing the county-wide total to 17 so far this season. Whooping cough often begins with symptoms like a common cold, but can progress into severe and or prolonged coughing fits. Across Kentucky, there have been more confirmed whooping cough cases this year than any year since 2012.
