Classes resume for many eastern Kentucky students this week

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WSIP) – Summer may not be officially over on the calendar, but for many students, summer break is coming to an end this week.

Eight school districts in eastern Kentucky are returning to class, beginning on Wednesday, August 5th, with students in Floyd, Harlan, Knott, and Martin County schools beginning the 2026-27 school year.

On Thursday, August 6th, students in Johnson County along with Breathitt, Magoffin and Pike County schools will resume classes.

Lawrence and Morgan County schools return to class on Wednesday, August 12th. Letcher County students return to class on Thursday, August 13th along with students at Pikeville Independent Schools.

Paintsville Independent Schools are back in session on Monday, August 24th.
