Fire Destroys Johnson County Home

A Johnson County home went up in flames on Saturday.

Fire crews raced to the home around 5:30 Saturday morning on Easy Street at Cross Creek the Staffordsville.

WR Castle Fire and Rescue says on their Facebook page that the original call was for a smoke detector activiation, but the resident had called back to dispatchers while crews were enroute and reported that he had found a working fire.

By the time the first fire truck arrived, the flames had already worked into the attic and the roof eventually collapsed.

Two people inside the home escaped safely, but the home has been demeed a total loss.

Paintsville, Oil Springs and Rockhouse fire crews responded to help out.
