Officials: Bone Discovered at Dewey Lake Determined Not Human

The Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s office now says a large leg bone that was found Monday night at Dewey Lake was NOT human.

The Floyd County Coroner’s Office turned over the bone to the state medical examiner for confirmation.

The discovery, however, caused a stir on social media after a transcript of a 911 call that reported a “human leg with a shoe attached, was found at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.

Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson responded to the scene and quickly announced that he felt the bone was not human in nature, but that he would send it off for confirmation.

The state medical examiner agreed with Nelson’s conclusion.

Nelson said, if he had to guess, it was a cow or elk bone.

Nelson did confirm that there was actually a shoe on the bone when authorities discovered it, but that he doesn’t know how it got there.
