Two Salyersville Women Indicted in Magoffin County Child Abuse Case

Two Salyersville women have been indicted in a child abuse case in Magoffin County.

Attorney General Russell Coleman says a grand jury charged 26-year-old Destiny Brown and 36-year-old Melissa Howard with first-degree criminal abuse involving a child under the age of 12.

According to the indictment, the abuse allegedly happened between October of 2024 and July of 2025. Investigators say the child was denied food as punishment, confined inside the home without access to food or bathroom facilities, and physically abused. Authorities allege Howard had custody of the child and allowed Brown to participate in the abuse.

The case was investigated by Kentucky State Police. Assistant Attorney General Tony Skeans presented the case to the Magoffin County Grand Jury.
