The Kentucky Blood Center is asking Paintsville-area residents to roll up a sleeve and help replenish the local blood supply.
A blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Kentucky Blood Center bloodmobile at Walmart, 470 North Mayo Trail in Paintsville.
Organizers say the blood supply took a hit this summer, as vacations, extreme heat and the absence of school blood drives reduced donations. At the same time, hospitals saw an increase in serious injuries requiring blood transfusions.
Officials say blood cannot be manufactured, so the local supply depends entirely on volunteer donors. All donors at Wednesday’s drive will receive a “Grab a Slice of Saving Lives” T-shirt, while supplies last.
Donors must be at least 17 years old—or 16 with parental consent—and meet other eligibility requirements. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
To schedule a donation, visit Kentucky Blood Center online at kybloodcenter dot org, or call 800-775-2522.
