East Kentucky Gearheads Kicking off 2024 Cruiz’N Season

The East Kentucky Gearheads Cruiz-n is this Saturday in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts in Paintsville. Carl Pass with the gearheads said the show begins at 4 p.m. and goes until dark and probably later. This is the 16th year of the Cruize-in which will be held every third Saturday through September.  Organizers hope to have 150 to 200 cars on display. The event is free and even registering a car or motorcycle is free.

First Eastern Kentucky Recovery Conference was a Huge Success

Big Sandy Community and Technical College hosted the 2024 Eastern Kentucky Recovery Conference on Tuesday at the Mountain Arts Center.   It was a day learning to foster a more informed approach to addiction treatment and mental health support.  Rachelle Burchett with the college said "you can see today there is so much commitment here, so many resources from specific medication to recovery centers. Annual Garden Seed Program Begins April 1

The Big Sandy Area Community Action Program has announced the return of its Annual Garden Seed Program.  Starting April 1, residents can apply for $50 vouchers to build their own food-bearing gardens. The sign-ups will run through April 5 or until the allocated funds are gone on a first-come, first-served basis. The program provides the means to purchase seeds, plants, and fertilizer from local vendors.

Winners Announced in 12th Annual Van Lear Chili Cook-off

The 12th Annual Van Lear Chili Cook-off was held on Saturday at the Van Lear Coal Miners Museum. Dozens of people gathered for the event and eleven made chili for the competition. The Annual JCHS Baseball Team's Chili Auction will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 beginning at 5 PM. The money raised during the auction will help with the Golden Eagles Spring Break Trip and other Activities throughout the Year.
