Lawrence County Man Arrested Following Accident in Johnson County

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a traffic accident with injuries and wound up making a major drug bust.   The accident occurred at the mouth of Daniel’s Creek when the officer smelled marijuana and started more of an investigation that led to the arrest of Thomas Slone of Lawrence County.  Police found bags of pot with paraphernalia, 82 jars of Dab, handguns, and cash.  Slone was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center with a $2,500 cash bond, […]

Prestonsburg Police Arrest Suspected Child Predator Following Investigation

The following is a release from the Prestonsburg Police Department: On December 5, 2023, PPD Detective Brad Caldwell, who is affiliated with Internet Crimes Against Children organizations, and is specially trained in such cases, received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a subscriber in Floyd County was tracked viewing, downloading, and uploading child pornography. Alcohol Sales In Inez Begin in January

The sale of alcohol in the city of Inez is expected to begin January 12th.    Inez Mayor Ed Daniels conducted the first official reading of the “Alcoholic Beverage Control Ordinance” summary during a city meeting. The 19-page ordinance outlines 23 different license fees. The next meeting is Thursday night at 6 p.m. for the second reading of the ABC ordinance.

Hunt Event Scheduled to Control Deep Population Near Stone Crest Golf Course

A large deer population is causing damage at the Stone Crest Golf Course in Prestonsburg.  The City Council has approved a hunt using bows and crossbows to be held in the Stone Crest Golf Course area in January to reduce the deer population there.  The damage done by the deer includes damage to a greenhouse which costs $12,000 to replace. 3 Facing Drug Charges in Hazard

Police in Hazard have arrested three men with similar charges but in two separate cases. A Hazard policeman saw a man sitting inside a pickup truck who he knew had an active warrant. That man, Jason Fields, was arrested.  The officer then discovered a second unidentified man in the truck who also had a warrant for his arrest for a separate case. Arrest Made Following High Speed Chase in Boyd County

A high-speed chase in Boyd County has resulted in one arrest.  A Kentucky state police report said Benjamin Layne refused a traffic stop leading troopers on a high-speed pursuit through heavy traffic while tossing bags of illegal drugs out of the vehicle.   State police said they were able to recover the narcotics thrown from the vehicle.   Layne has been taken to the Boyd County Detention Center to await court proceedings.

Funding Announced to Improve Housing in East Kentucky

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development has announced grant funding for over $935,000 that will help improve housing in Eastern Kentucky. The press release states that over 80 families will be able to make repairs and improvements to their homes. Twenty of those families are in Breathitt, Knott, Floyd, Magoffin, and Perry counties.

Alley Fest Announces 2024 Dates

Johnson County Woman Sentenced to Six Years in Prison on Drug Conspiracy Charges

Samantha Nichole Daniels, of Johnson County, has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for her part in a drug distribution conspiracy. Daniels pleaded guilty last December to a federal charge of conspiracy to distribute meth.  Her co-defendant, Aaron Tyler Welch also pleaded guilty to the same charge in April. Both admitted to being a source for large quantities of meth and reselling it to users and other dealers in the Johnson County area.
