Paintsville Police and Fire Depts. Reward Good Drivers

The Paintsville Fire and Police Departments are rewarding good drivers. The departments are watching for drivers doing the right thing so that they can reward them with gift cards. Local merchants have contributed to the annual Christmas event where a traffic stop for good driving habits can reward drivers with a gift card. National Study Ranks Kentucky Unhealthy

A national study of health rankings has listed Kentucky near the bottom. A report from America's Health Rankings from the United Health Foundation ranks Kentucky 41st in the country in a wide range of health issues. The factors include physical and mental health with the Commonwealth ranking high for obesity factors that can lead to diabetes. Floyd County Woman Arrested Following High Speed Chase

A Martin woman, Sabrina Howell, is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading police in a high-speed chase through Prestonsburg last week.  Police said that Howell was seen apparently driving in the wrong lane on Rt-1428. Man Facing Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop in Floyd County

A Floyd County deputy on patrol spotted a car with expired tags in Martin.  A passenger in the car, Justin Kyle Bryant, was asked to get out of the car when it is alleged that he dropped a bag of drugs in front of a police officer. The drugs were found to be meth and fentanyl.  Officers also found a gun during a body search.

Kentucky Joins Get Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign

More officers and deputies will be patrolling the roads as Kentucky joins the national "Get Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. Enforcement is expected to increase starting Wednesday through the New Year. The State Transportation Cabinet states sixteen impaired-related deaths have happened in this time period in the last five years. Officers will be more visible to drivers who can expect pop-up check points at any time.

Man Facing Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop Near Prestonsburg

A Kentucky state trooper made a traffic stop after seeing a car driven by Marion Wade Martin going 71 mph on US Highway 23 just outside of Prestonsburg.  After the car was stopped, Martin was searched, and the trooper found a gun and several drugs. He was then taken to jail where Martin is accused of trying to swallow a golf-ball-size bag of heroin. Martin is facing additional charges including drug trafficking and tampering with evidence.

Motor Vehicle Licensing System Shutdown Coming After December 29th

Due to a statewide shut down of Motor Vehicle Licensing Departments so the system can be updated, Johnson County clerk wants to remind you the last day for Motor Vehicle Licensing business will be Friday, December 29th.  The Clerk’s Office will be open for Land Records and Voting.  The state is hoping to have the system up and running and offices back open for business by January 10th.  They ask for you to call ahead at 606-789-2557.

Gov. Beshear Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Former Gov. Julian Carroll

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 12, 2023) – On Sunday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the death of former Kentucky Gov. Julian Carroll. The 54th Governor of the commonwealth, Carroll served in that role from 1974 to 1979. Prior to becoming Governor, he served as Lieutenant Governor from 1971 to 1974. Carroll reentered politics in 2004, running for a seat in the Kentucky State Senate, where he served from 2005 until his retirement in 2020. He was 92 years old when he died. “Former […]
