The Better Business Bureau serving Greater Kentucky is warning purchasers of an ongoing scam. Thieves are swapping out cards on racks in stores and changing the barcode on the back so that funds go to the scammer instead. Johnson County Woman Arrested on Shoplifting, Drug Charges

An arrest by Paintsville Police for shoplifting became an arrest for shoplifting and trafficking in fentanyl. A Johnson County woman, Alisha Ralph, of Paintsville, was being watched by loss prevention at Walmart who called the police to arrest her. Ralph then started yelling and cursing.  A search found fentanyl, a needle, and stolen items.

Former Kentucky Governor Julian Morton Carroll Dies

Former Kentucky Governor Julian Morton Carroll died Sunday morning at Frankfort Regional Medical Center at the age of 92.  The democrat became governor in 1974 when then Governor Wendell Ford won election to the U.S. Senate.  Carroll won his own full four-year term as governor in 1975.  He also served five terms as a state representative.  Voters elected him lieutenant governor in 1971. Mailboxes Vandalized in Magoffin County

The Magoffin County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in finding vandals who have damaged several mailboxes. In the Salyersville Independent Sheriff Bill Meade said the vandalism of the mailboxes is a federal offense, and those involved could receive a sentence of up to three years in jail and be fined $150,000.  If you, or someone you know, have caught these acts on surveillance video, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 606-349-2914, or talk to your postmaster.

Louisa PD Loses Former K9

The Louisa Police Department has announced the loss of a former K9 officer. K9 Kenya died this week. He served the department from 2015 to 2022 when health issues forced him to retire. Missing Woman Feared Endangered

Police in Ashland are concerned that a missing woman could be critically endangered. Selena Taylor has been missing for nearly two months. She was last seen at Frasure's Personal Care Home in Ashland on October 10th. Taylor is from Letcher County and has family in that area. She is white, 44-years-old, about five-foot-five and 195 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes. Closure on US-460 West of Salyersville

 If you are driving in Magoffin County, be aware that US-460 will be closed just west of downtown Salyersville December 11th through the 14th so road crews can work on the Ivy Point roadway relocation. The road will be closed between KY-30 and Lee Prater Street/Water Works Street and will impact traffic between Salyersville and West Liberty.

Man Arrested on Auto Theft Charges in Pikeville

Pikeville police have arrested 19-year-old Jonny Slone and charged him with two counts of auto theft. Police were investigating an auto theft when they were told of another theft and that U-Pike Public Safety had received several reports over the weekend of cars being broken into on the University of Pikeville campus.
