Pike County Woman Appeals 45-Year Federal Child Exploitation Sentence

LONDON, Ky. (WSIP) – A Pike County woman sentenced to 45 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material is appealing her sentence. Pamela Denise Sargent, 45, of Kimper, pleaded guilty in March to two counts of producing child pornography. Prosecutors said she admitted to creating explicit videos involving toddler-aged children. Floyd County Cracking Down on Illegal Dumping

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSIP) – Floyd County officials are reminding residents that illegal dumping remains a problem and say enforcement efforts are continuing. A recent illegal dump site was discovered along Allen Banner Road, and officials say cameras are actively monitoring known dumping locations. Anyone caught illegally disposing of trash could face prosecution. County residents can dispose of household waste free once each month on a Monday or Friday at the Rumpke/Floyd County Transfer Station in Martin.

Martin County Records Kentucky’s Highest Unemployment Rate

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WSIP) - Unemployment rates for June rose in 116 counties across Kentucky compared to last year. Martin County has the commonwealth’s highest unemployment rate at 10.6%, followed by Wolfe County at 10.4%, Magoffin County 9.6% and Elliott County at 9.5%. Woodford County has the lowest unemployment rate in the commonwealth at 4.5%.

Paintsville Man Arrested on Drug Charges

A Paintsville man is facing multiple drug trafficking and traffic-related charges following a traffic stop in Lawrence County, that led to a search of his home. Louisa Police arrested James Hicks after officers reportedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials, cash and evidence of suspected drug sales during the stop. Knott County Woman Killed in Crash

A single vehicle crash early Friday morning has claimed the life of a Knott County woman. 39-year-old Melisa Slone, of Garner, was driving north on KY-15 in Sassafras when her Chevrolet Silverado struck a rock in the roadway, causing the vehicle to overturn. Slone was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, toxicology results are pending, and she was not wearing a seatbelt.

One Seriously Injured in Pike County Crash

Kentucky State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one person seriously injured Friday morning in Pike County. The collision happened around 10:15 on KY-194 in Freeburn. Morris Casey was driving a Ford Ranger eastbound when he struck the rear of a stopped coal truck that was waiting in a road construction zone.
